Inside the Polls (3/21)

Well, it's back. Everyone's favorite breakdown of where the local teams stand in all the state polls.

Just as a refresher, we'll be using the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) for the softball polls and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) for the baseball, obviously.

One final note, the THSBCA poll only displays the top-10, while the TGCA poll goes either top-20 or top-25, depending on the week.

So, without further adieu, let's do it.

SOFTBALL (Full poll)

Class 3A
No area teams or district rivals

Class 2A
No area teams or district rivals

Class 1A
Grapeland still finds itself in the top-10, right where its been since the very first preseason poll put out by the TGCA earlier this year. The Sandiettes went on a deep playoff run last season, and the recognition is well deserved. Slocum fell three spots this week from No. 15 to No. 18.
Cross Roads, which resides in District 14 with both Cayuga and Neches, currently sits atop the latest poll as the best team in the state, according to the poll at least.

BASEBALL (Full poll)
Class 3A
No area teams or district rivals, though it is important to note that some of the best baseball in the state is played one district over, in the Waco-area District 19. West (No. 1) and Robinson (No. 4) both call that district home and that district would be the first round playoff matchup for the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds out of Palestine and Westwood's District 20.

Class 2A
No area teams or district rivals, although Central Heights (No. 2) did play and beat Elkhart earlier this season in a tournament.

Class 1A
Unbeaten and, for at least the last four games, unhittable, the Cayuga Wildcats  have moved up from preseason No. 3 to No. 2, still sitting behind Windhorst (11-4) for the top spot. Cayuga's district rival LaPoynor was in the top-10 preseason, but has since fallen out. Same can be said for Cross Roads. Region III, the Cayuga region, is arguable the toughest in the state, with the Wildcats, Shelbyville (No. 3), Garrison (No. 7) and Evadale (No. 10, preseason No. 1) all calling Region III home. Also in this poll is Bremond (No. 6) another squad that topped Class 2A Elkhart this year.
