Inside the TABC polls (Week of 1/31/10)

We're entering the final month of regular season basketball, and a lot of the local squads are beginning to heat up as the playoffs approach.

Granted, these rankings have no bearing on making the playoffs (like Arizona's rankings system does), but it is a somewhat accurate gauge of where team's stand against the rest of the state.

So, without further adieu, let's dive in to this week's polls.

GIRLS (Full Rankings)

Class 3A
Still no local squads breaking into the Top-25, but District 20-3A rival Fairfield continued its move up the poll. After entering at No. 25 two weeks ago, then jumping to No. 22 last week, the Lady Eagles make the leap all the way to No. 17 in this week's poll. Fairfield is scheduled to play second-place Palestine Tuesday at Palestine, barring a rescheduling for inclement weather.

Class 2A
No local squads or district foes.

Class 1A, Div. I
After falling to Lovelady Friday at home, the Slocum Lady Mustangs and the Lady Lions flip-flopped spots in this week's poll, with Lovelady moving to No. 12 and Slocum falling to No. 13. In District 20, Martin's Mill held strong at No. 3, while LaPoynor jumped two spots to No. 15.

Class 1A, Div. II
After yet another undefeated week, the Neches girls' basketball team held strong at No. 2, behind undefeated Saltillo.

BOYS (Full Rankings)
Class 3A
The Mexia Blackcats are still the class of District 20, moving back into the top-10 at No. 10 from No. 12. The district's second-place squad, Groesbeck, enters the top-25 this week at No. 24.

Class 2A
No local squads or district foes this week in the rankings.

Class 1A, Div. I
All three squads from District 20 have been bunched together in the new rankings, led by Cayuga at No. 8, the same spot as last week. LaPoynor made a huge jump this week from No. 17 from No. 9, followed by Martin's Mill, who came in at No. 10. In District 23, Grapeland moved from No. 14 to No. 13, while Slocum stayed at No. 16.

Class 1A, Div. II
Neches' district rival Laneville held firm at No. 6 in the latest poll.
