Inside the TABC polls (Week of 2/7/11)

It's getting down to the nitty-gritty time for high school basketball teams around the state this week. Girls regular-season play wraps up tonight, while the boys will finish things up with games tonight, Friday and next Tuesday.

For local squads, there wasn't loads of movement in the polls this week, as has been the norm for most of the season. That being said, many local teams still find themselves considered some of the top 20 or so squads in their respective classes in the state.

Let's dive in.

GIRLS (Full Rankings)
Class 3A
Still no local squad in the top-25, but local rival Fairfield took a tumble from No. 17 in last week's poll down to No. 24 this week, thanks in large part to the Lady Eagles loss Tuesday here in Palestine to the Ladycats. Those two squads decide who'll be district champion tonight, when Palestine travels to Westwood and Fairfield travels to Madisonville. A Ladycat win coupled with a Lady Eagle loss secures the title for Palestine. If both win, it goes to tiebreakers.

Class 2A
No local squads or district foes

Class 1A, Div. I
The Slocum girls squad moved up one spot to No. 12 in this week's poll after an undefeated week, as did district-rival Lovelady (No. 11). In District 20, Martin's Mill held strong at No. 3, while LaPoynor took a six-spot tumble to No. 21 after falling to Cayuga.

Class 1A, Div. II
Different week, same story. Saltillo remains perfect and keeps hold of the No. 1 spot, while Neches holds steady at No. 2.

BOYS (Full Rankings)
Class 3A
Still no local squads, while district rivals Mexia (No. 10) and Groesbeck (No. 24) held serve at their respective spots this week.

Class 2A
No local squads or district rivals

Cayuga held on to its spot at No. 8 this week after topping Hawkins and LaPoynor last week. LaPoynor fell to No. 12 from No. 9 after the 1-1 week, while Martin's Mill tumbled from No. 10 to No. 13. In District 23, Grapeland moved up a spot to No. 11, while Slocum held at No. 16.

Class 1A, Div. II
Laneville, who currently sits atop Neches' District 22, remained at No. 6.
